Hit and run crash. Conewango Township Police reported that on November 18 and 12:35 a.m. an unknown individual struck the guide wires of a utility pole at 616 South State Street causing a power outage. The suspect then fled the scene of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Conewango Township Police Department.
Crash. Conewango Township Police were called to a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 in Starbrick on November 18 at 7:30 a.m. A vehicle driven by Ben Graham of Bear Lake was traveling east on Route 6 when a large eight point buck jumped in front of his vehicle. Graham was struck by the buck, which tossed the buck into the opposing traffic where it was struck by a vehicle driven by Andrea Reed of Tidioute. The buck was stuck under Reed's vehicle and rendered her vehicle undrivable. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage sustained from the buck. Neither driver was injured.
Phone scam. Conewango Township Police reporetd that a resident of the township contacted the Conewango Township Police following an attempted phone scam. The resident reported receiving a call from his "grandson' who was in Mexico. The "grandson" then gave the phone to his "attorney" who reported that the grandson was arrested and $4,800 was needed for his bail involving his restitution as part of a motor vehicle accident. The resident verified his grandson's location, not in Mexico, and confronted the caller who then hung up. Conewango Township Police urge those that receive this type of phone scam not to be a victim by sending money and also encouraged residents to contact their local police agency to report suspected scams.
Retail theft. Conewango Township Police cited Melissa Rockwell, 41, Clarendon, after she was observed by Walmart loss prevention taking $25.57 worth of merchandise without paying for it on November 17 at 4:15 p.m. Walmart contacted the Conewango Township Police who cited Rockwell with a summary violation of retail theft.
