Warren Area High School graduate and Maryland Eastern Shore baseball player Brandon Schott earned a place on the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Commissioner's All-Academic Team for the 2011-2012 season. The achievement is awarded to student-athletes, including sophomores to seniors, which have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better through the 2011-12 athletic season.

Mary Lou Sherwood readies herself to return the serve of an opponent during a doubles tennis match Thursday at Betts Park. Thursday was the opening night of the annual Thursday Night Doubles Tennis program. The league has been in operation since 1984, making this the 28th year of the free tennis league. Week one champions are the duos of Thomas Pellegrino and Erika Siliano and Nick Tarpenning and Neil Morrison.
For the first time in league history, Busti and Randolph had to go to the 14th shooter to break a 339-339 tie. When the smoke cleared, Busti had clipped Randolph by an incredibly close 674-673 count. In other action, Celoron topped Carroll, 341-338.
Tiffany Decker had the lone perfect score of 50 for Busti while Andrew Hvizdzak had the lone perfect score for Randolph. Celoron's Don Foster was perfect as was Chuck Cooper for Carroll.
Decker was the high lady with her 50, Hvizdzak was high junior with his 50 and Jordyn Milks and Hunter Whippo shared high sub-junior marks with scores of 48. Milks completed his first 25 straight. Brian Westerdahl was the high vet with a 49, Hod Edgreen and Russ Wingard shared high senior vet marks with 49's and Al Staerr, Red France and Bob Schilling all shared high super senior vet marks with scores of 46's.

Warren Post 135 topped Wesleyville, 13-3, in Junior American Legion Baseball League play on Thursday. Jimmy Vile scattered six hits over five innings to earn the win and got some tremendous offensive support. Kyle Hunt was 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI, D.J. Fehlman was 3-for-4 with a double and Casey Vincent was 2-for-3 with a double.
Post 135 (4-1) returns to action Saturday, hosting Erie Post 11 in a doubleheader.
