Scott Baxter announces bid for Warren City Council
Warren, PA – Scott Baxter, lifelong Warren resident and Senior Programming Developer at InvestEdge, Inc., announced his candidacy for Warren City Council.
Mr. Baxter is a self-taught computer programmer who’s been heavily involved with computers since the 8th grade. After graduating from Warren Area High School in 1998 he was immediately hired by Blair Corporation as a Programmer Analyst and then transferred shortly thereafter to McKissock to be a Senior Programmer Analyst where he worked for 12 years. After a short stint as an Independent Contractor for Crossett working on IT infrastructure, he entered his current position as Senior Developer for InvestEdge, Inc., a wealth management software platform that handles over $900 billion in assets.
This history of hard work, technical ability, self-teaching and determination are what Mr. Baxter will employ as a City Council Member. In 2010 as a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, he spearheaded the program to allow free public WIFI access in local parks including Betts and Beaty. His hard work and community service extends to his position as a Sergeant-at-Arms for the Northwest Pennsylvania chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.). An organization that exists to create a safer environment for abused children.
When asked why he was running, Scott replied, “I am running because I believe Warren is an extraordinary city. We have some beautiful assets and great people. It is my goal to work towards a thriving economy through the combination of local ingenuity and our plentiful natural resources.”
Mr. Baxter’s priorities include:
¯ Reevaluating the parking system downtown, including reducing fees and fines, especially near the library.
¯ Encourage start-up companies by re-examination of taxes and fees associated with new businesses.
¯ Exploring and expanding affordable high-speed internet options downtown.
¯ Increase tourism using internet friendly tools, such as Youtube and other social media, to generate a vibrant downtown. An effort which will help economic growth and entice a new generation of workers to come home and take root.
Scott Baxter has more than 15 years of programming and application development experience working in various team environments and intends to bring that spirit of hard work and collaboration to City Council.
