Clifford LeRoy Maze
Clifford LeRoy Maze finished his earthly race and crossed the finish line into Heaven on July 4, 2019. Cliff’s life reflected his love for his savior, Jesus Christ. The way he lived, showed God’s love to his friends, family, and everyone he met.
Cliff was born November 7th, 1929 in Warren, PA. He attended Warren Area High School where he was the varsity running back and middle linebacker his freshman through senior year. The Warren RedJackets, a local semiprofessional football team, recruited Cliff to play on the gridiron in the ’40s.
In the early years he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, later changing career paths; joining the National Forge Co where he worked many years. Cliff was also a member of the Warren Barbershop Chorus and pitched in the Warren Co. Horseshoe League. He was an Official at Stateline Speedway and built several racecars with his son Denny. His passion for automobiles and people drew him to join the Antique Classic Car Club. Restoring cars was among his greatest hobbies. The last car Cliff restored was with his grandson Mark.
Cliff was a craftsman; a jack of all trades. Helping build houses for his friends and family, he left his stamp on many communities in the county including the hand crafted ‘Stone House’ he built in Youngsville, Pa. Cliff enjoyed camping, boating, waterskiing, building and restoring classic cars and being with his friends and family. He was an active member in the Free Methodist Church in Youngsville and more recently, in Sugar Grove. Cliff and his wife Phyllis were fortunate to have traveled to England and Hawaii. They also owned a winter residence in Florida where they spent many winters with close friends.
Cliff was the son of Stephan John Maze and Dorothy Evelyn NupherMaze. He married Esther Mae Hendrickson in 1950. They had two children, Deborah Ann and Dennis LeRoy (Jennifer). After Esther’s death in 1968, Cliff married Phyllis MillerStewart who had two children; Gayle StewartWright and Kenneth Stewart III. Phyllis preceded Cliff through the gates of heaven in 2017. In addition to his children and stepchildren, Cliff is survived by five grandchildren; Julie (Chris) PringJaquith, Amy Pring; Andrew (Tammy), Mark and Shane (Brittany) Maze; six greatgrandchildren Kira, Natasha, Izabella, and Callia Jaquith; Julianna and Ethan Maze.
Cliff is survived by his older brother Virgil Maze, who resides in Florida with his wife Virginia. He is predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth and David Maze and a sister Patricia MazeBorland.
Friends and family will be received at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St. on Sunday July 7th, from 2 to 3 PM, at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. Billy Hughes, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Youngsville Cemetery.
