The Trickle - forget Kevin Bacon...
February 6, 2013 - Brian Ferry
I'm on LinkedIn.
I don't get much out of my account there, but, since I don't participate in other, more social, social media, I keep it around.
With the Seven Degrees... idea, I figure I have some pretty cool people who are only a step or two away. (I mean no offense to those to whom I am directly linked. Some of them are pretty cool, but none are the rock stars in their fields (that I can think of).
One of my contacts is something of a field rock star. Dr. F. is published, respected, and acclaimed in the realm of chess teaching.
I've played some chess. I was once unabashedly a member of a chess club and have played in more than one chess tournament (exactly two).
We won't talk about my rating, but I was in the average range for rated members. I have played against one master (that was a short game), several experts, and a mess of Class A players - almost all of whom have earned the victory. I've just never been that good.
It's time to move away from me not being that good and on to me being connected with people who are.
In checking some of my second-degree links on LinkedIn, I discovered among the illustrious chess players/coaches/writers/teachers the number one player in the U.S. and a recent, but former, women's world champion.
Not only do I scoff at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, in this respect I scoff at Kevin Bacon. (Although I don't know his rating.)
