CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a registered sex offender who allegedly impregnated a 12-year-old southern New Jersey girl is due to make his first court appearance.

Joseph Anthony Caracciolo is charged with traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

He was due to appear Friday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Camden, and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Authorities say the 47-year-old Caracciolo was arrested Aug. 28 in New York City. They claim he traveled between New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania to sexually assault the victim, who is now 13. She gave birth to a child in April.

Prosecutors say Carraciolo — who also used the names Joseph Crillo or Joseph Grillo — may have had more victims.
