PITTSBURGH (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing all campsites and recreational parks in the Pittsburgh District because of the government shutdown. The area includes sites in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The Corps says in a Tuesday afternoon release that all current campers must depart no later than 8 p.m. on Oct. 2. They will receive a refund of any unused portion of their reservations.

The Corps manages 16 lakes and about 104,000 acres of public land around the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers. The largest campground is at Berlin Lake in Ohio, with 347 campsites.

The sites are popular with boaters, campers and picnickers, and for hunting and fishing.

Until further notice the recreation sites won't be accepting new reservations.
