Pa. news chief moving from Harrisburg to Lancaster

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — John Kirkpatrick, a longtime top executive at The Patriot-News in Harrisburg and its online counterpart PennLive, is taking a new job with Lancaster Newspapers Inc.

PennLive reported Thursday ( ) that Kirkpatrick announced that he is taking over as president of the Lancaster company.

Kirkpatrick joined The Patriot-News in 1991 after working at the San Francisco Examiner. He was named publisher in 1997 and given the additional title of president in 2001.

In January, he was named president of the newly formed PA Media Group, overseeing PennLive, The Patriot-News and the company's other publications.

Under Kirkpatrick's leadership, the Patriot-News won numerous awards, including the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting.
