Police say Pa. officer shot after taking hostage

October 26, 2013
Associated Press

JIM THORPE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty police officer in rural northeastern Pennsylvania has been shot and taken to a hospital.

Authorities are trying to sort out the details but initial reports are the 33-year-old Lansford officer took another officer hostage Friday night and took a police cruiser, then drove with the hostage about 10 miles east to Jim Thorpe.

A struggle broke out and the alleged hostage-taker was shot.

His condition was not known late Friday night.
