Cal U. student held in campus heist with fake gun

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (AP) — A student at California University of Pennsylvania has been jailed on charges he robbed another student of $250 in his dorm room while using a toy gun.

The robbery about 11 a.m. Wednesday prompted the school about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh to issue a campus-wide lockdown until 18-year-old freshman Khari Hicks, of Wilkinsburg, was arrested about an hour later.

Police say witnesses recognized Hicks who was arrested near the student union and agreed to let officers search his room. Police say they found the toy gun police believe was used in the robbery along with four individual dose stamp bags of heroin in Hicks' backpack.

Police charged Hicks with robbery — theft with the threat of force — because the victim believed the gun was real.

Court records don't list an attorney for Hicks.
