Delay sought in Pa. trial in child's hit-run death

December 31, 2013

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors in northeastern Pennsylvania are seeking a delay in the trial of a man charged in the hit-and-run death of a 5-year-old boy in Wilkes-Barre a year ago.

Luzerne County prosecutors say they need more time to prepare for the trial of 23-year-old Thomas Letteer Jr. in the December 2012 death of Kevin Miller of Dallas, Pa.

Authorities charged Letteer in April with a felony count of accidents involving death or personal injury, saying he was driving a car that struck the child as he was crossing a street and then fled the scene.

The trial was scheduled for January, but prosecutors say the assistant district attorney hasn't had time to prepare due to work on a triple homicide case, and an expert witness won't be available.
