Associated Press

SHAMOKIN, Pa. (AP) — A deputy sheriff in northeastern Pennsylvania was hospitalized after his sheriff's department sport-utility vehicle slid on snow, crashed into a stone embankment and flipped onto its side.

The News-Item (http://bit.ly/1ojqong) said Northumberland County Deputy Sheriff Henry Schrader was treated for minor injuries and released after the Monday morning crash on Route 225.

He was headed to work at the county courthouse when his 2004 Ford Expedition skidded in the snow, crashed and flipped onto its driver's side.

Schrader, who was briefly trapped in the vehicle, could be heard over the emergency scanner reporting his own accident to the 911 center.

Police said Schrader was able to crawl to safety through the passenger side door with the assistance of Coal Township firefighters and emergency medical personnel.
