The Penn State Alumni Association, Warren County Chapter, has announced its $500 Anthony Scordo Memorial Book Scholarship winners for 2011. They are: Kyle Papalia of Warren Area High School, Emily Andersen of Warren Area High School, and Alex Burdette of Youngsville High School.

Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., has released the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2010-11 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition. Those students from your circulation area who met this standard are: Christina A. Mattioli, Warren, daughter of Janice Mattioli of Warren and Robert Mattioli of Throop, Pa., and a 2007 graduate of Warren Area High School.

The following students have been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, a national freshman honor society at Mercyhurst College. The society, which was chartered at Mercyhurst in 1986, rewards academic excellence among students who receive a cumulative grade average of 3.5 or higher during their freshman year. Named were:

Tessa Ellsworth of Warren, whose major is early childhood ed/special ed; and Brendan Lyle of Warren, whose major is intelligence studies.

Lyle also earned a 4.0 grade average for the 2010-2011 school year, placing him on Mercyhurst's dean's list. He is a member of Mercyhurst's Ambassadors Club, Competitive Intelligence Club, Laker Leaders, is vice president of the Philosophy Club. He is working this summer at Blair as a sales representative. He is the son of Gregory and Pamela Bonace Lyle of Warren.

Stephen Reaugh of Sugar Grove received a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in medieval and Renaissance studies.

Matthew Deivert of North Warren received a bachelor's degree in managerial economics with a minor in communication arts.

John Stewart of Warren received a bachelor's degree in physical geology with a minor in psychology.

Eleanor Belleau, a student at Thiel College, Greenville, was recently awarded a $3,000 multi-year scholarship from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Belleau is an accounting and business administration major and the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Belleau of Warren. PICPA offers a variety of scholarships and awards and candidates are judged by their intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need and intent to pursue a career in accounting. This year, 51 students from Pennsylvania colleges and universities received scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.

Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., announces the following students were named to the dean's list for the 2010-11 spring semester. Dean's list status is awarded to students who earn a 3.6 grade point average or better. Named were:

Lydia Chapman of Warren, a sophomore majoring in accounting; Rachel Crone of Warren, a grad senior majoring in history; Casey Main of Warren, a freshman majoring in psychology; and Geneva Kelsey of Youngsville, a sophomore majoring in communication disorders.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has released its dean's list for the spring 2011 semester. Dean's list status is awarded to full-time students who have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Those earning a grade point average of 4.0 were Kristen N. Bertch, a sophomore criminal justice major, and Jude W. Harter, a senior social studies education 7-12 major, both from Clarendon; and Angela R. Shick, a junior chemistry major, and Kamie A. Laih, a junior human relations major, both from Warren.

Lauren Wood graduated from Gannon University on May 7 with a doctorate in phsyical therapy degree. She plans to begin her career at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayettville, N.C., on Aug. 1

Christian Wood graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree. He plans to attend Nova Southeastern University - College of Optometry in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., beginning Aug. 1.

Lauren and Christian are the children of Paul and Joel Wood, Warren.

Lindsey Berg, daughter of Stan and Maureen Berg of North Warren, was named to the dean's list at University at Buffalo for the spring semester. To qualify, a student must attain a grade average of 3.6 or better. Berg is a pre-med student majroing in biology with a concentraiton in pre-health. In the fall she will begin her junior year at UB as a residence advisor, vice president of Circle K International, and as a member of the University Chorus. Berg is a student intern at Warren General Hospital and an employee at the Cobham Youth Program of Warren Salvation Army.

Rex Graham of Warren, son of Rex J. Graham and Delora Petress, has been accepted at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for the fall term. A recent graduate of Warren Area Hgih School, Graham was active in football and track and field. He plans to major in human performance and play football for Edinboro.

George W. Mead III of Youngsville, son of George and Jennifer Mead, has been accepted at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania for the fall term. He plans to major in business administration and economics.

Sarah Hitchcock of Russell graduated with honors in May from Mercyhurst North East with an associate's degree in liberal arts. Her cumulative grade point average was 3.8. She was on the dean's list each semester. While attending Mercyhurst North East, she was a member of the Saints softball team. This year, the team advanced all the way to nationals in Chicago, Ill. They placed 10th in the nation. Her future plans are to attend California University of PA, in California, Pa., to obtain a bachelor's degree in business. She is the daughter of Dick and Julie Hitchcock of Russell and is a 2009 graduate of Eisenhower High School.

Jamestown Business College has announced the president's and dean's lists for the spring 2011 term.

Named to the president's list with a 3.90 - 4.00 grade average were:

Amy Gustafson, Warren; Melissa M. Meley, Warren; Tiffany M. Morgan, Warren; Jared W. Strickland, Russell; Pamela S. Wimer, Clarendon; and Katie L. Wynn, Pittsfield.

Named to the dean's list with a 3.60 - 3.89 grade point average were David R. Ludwig, Warren; and Kesha N. Silvis, Warren.

Eleanor Belleau of Warren was awarded an annual $3,000 scholarship by Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Belleau is a student at Thiel College and is a member of Thiel's Learning Commons, an organization that helps students improve their grades. She is also a supplemental instructor and peer tutor, and is the volunteer team manager for the wrestling team.

Rachel Howe of Spring Creek also was awarded an annual $3,000 scholarship by Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Howe is a student at Pennsylvania State University and is president of the Penn State chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. She is also a member of the Smeal Student Mentors group. Formerly, Howe was a member of Penn State's Women in Business.

Scholarship recipients are accounting majors who have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours in general study. They are selected on the basis of intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need, and intent to pursue a career in accounting. This scholarship renews each year until graduation, as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 grade average and remains an accounting major.

Paul Thomas, son of Kevin and Faith Thomas of Russell, was selected to participate in C-MITES Summer Program for academically talented students. Thomas, a student at Russell Elementary School, plans to attend "Harry Potter's Science Adventure" at the Learning Enrichment Center July 18 to 22. The Carnegie Mellon program provides academically taleneted students with unique opportunities to dvelop their expanding potential and emphasizes experiential, interactive learning.

Neva Matie and Stacie Stuart, both of Warren, were named to the dean's list at Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pa. To be named to the list, students must earn a grade average of 3.3 or better.

Noah David Myers, a rising sixth grader at Youngsivlle Elementary-Middle School, has been chosen to take part in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. This year's theme will be "Voices of Leadership: Reflecting on the Past to Create the Future." The conference will introduce Myers to the tradition of leadership in Americanhisotry and help him develop his own leadership skills. He will take part in educational activities and presentations and explore relevant sites like Harpers Ferry NAtional Historical Park in West Virginia and Washington, D.C.'s museums and memorials. Myers, son of Chris S. Myers of Youngsville, was nominated for this honor by principal Eric Mineweaser.

Patrick Guy McLaughlin of Tidioute graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania/West Penn Hospital School of Respiratory Care with a bachelor of science degree in respiratory care. McLaughlin completed a two-year clinical at the West Penn Hospital in Pittsubrghh. He received the Ann and Dan McCauley Memorial Scholarship Award for Respiratory Care. The award is presented to a graduating student in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, promise for professional success and demonstrated compasoisnate care for patients. McLaughlin is the son of Patrick and Vicki McLaughlin of Tidioute and is a 2006 graduate of Tidioute Community Charter School. He has accepted a repiratory therapist position at Warren General Hospital.
