STATE COLLEGE - Jamestown entered Wednesday night's game at State College's Medlar Field looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since August 2-3.
Jamestown held State College to just four hits, but only mustered five of its own in a 3-1 loss to the Spikes.
The series finale is Thursday before the Jammers visit Mahoning Valley this weekend to conclude a 12-game road trip.
Daniel Oliver (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked two. The bullpen was a bright spot on Thursday, pitching three innings of hitless baseball. Jheyson Manzueta, Charles Wier and Blake Brewer allowed only two baserunners - both reaching on walks.
The Jammers (31-33) ended with only five hits. Two of those hits came from Austin Barnes with Ryan Goetz, Viosergy Rosa and Nestor Castillo chipping in one hit each.
All of this game's scoring came in the opening inning with Jamestown jumping out to a 1-0 lead only to watch the Spikes rally for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Goetz and Barnes started the game with back-to-back singles and Goetz scored on a groundout by Brian McConkey. Joshua Adams hit the ball to second in his next at-bat and Barnes was gunned down at the dish.
State College needed just one batter to tie the game at 1-1.
Junior Sosa hit the ball deep to center and eventually scored on an inside the park home run. Ashley Ponce followed with a walk and stole second before moving scoring on a Wes Freeman single. Before the inning was out, Matthew Skirving tripled home a run to make it 3-1.
State College would only get one more hit the rest of the game - a third inning double by Alex Dickerson.
