Art League Vice President Pat Orbanic, left, and President Judy Blank, right, prepare for the upcoming show.
League President Judy Blank said the show's title, "Eclectic Visions," corresponds to the diversity on display. Artwork will include paintings, she said, as well as sculptures and photographs.
Among the paintings, Blank said media will include oil, acrylics, water colors and collages. The league's shows has included jewelry in the past, she said, though she was not sure if it did this time.
"In one of our meetings, we set up a still life scene," Blank said. "Some of the members drew their own interpretations which will be part of the show."
League Vice President Pat Orbanic said talent from throughout the county will be on display. In addition, she said the league is always looking for new members to join at any time.
Around 20 participants will have work on display, Blank said, and are all members of the league. The show in the Crary Art Gallery begins with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, she said, and will be on display until Oct. 23.
The gallery's hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. The league last had a show at the gallery three years ago, Blank said.
This year, Blank said there have been eight to 10 new members join the league. She credits this growth to increased awareness of the group.
"More people are coming to the shows," Blank said. "Then they look forward to the next one and bring their friends and family."
Each year, Blank said the league has a fall and spring show. Others may include specific media such as print or collages, she said, and are usually held during the holidays or summer.
While the event is not a juried competition, Blank said prizes are sometimes awarded for the best in show or people's choice. However, she said the league has not talked about doing that for this show yet.
