Library "90" years old
Tidioute Public Library is celebrating 90 years of serving the community.
On Oct. 21, 1921 the Tidioute Library Association was organized under the supervision of Miss Helen Rockwell from the Penn State Library of Harrisburg.
The library was originally located in a room behind Emerson's Barbershop, and stocked with donated materials from the community.
In 1930, an oil and lumber baron named Freeman Hertzel agreed to erect and equip a modern fireproof building for $25,000, while property at 197 Main St. was donated by local businessman, Gordon Norton.
Then in 2006, the library was re-dedicated after the construction of a 2,000 square foot addition was completed.
The library would like to thank their patrons and the community for their support over the years.
Library hours are Monday and Wednesday 12 noon till 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m.
