Golf news

The Sheffield Open golf outing will be played June 21-22 in the Erie area. Additional details will be announced in April.

College news

Youngsville High School graduate and Asbury College women's cross country team member Devon Gruver finished second Saturday in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Owensboro, Ky. Gruver led the race for the last two miles and was only nipped by three one-hundreths of a second at the finish line. The finish was so close it actually had to go to a video review.

Despite falling just short of the win, Gruver (who finished in a time of 20:10) has qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships scheduled for November 19 in Vancouver, Washington.

Warren County Christian School graduate and Pitt-Bradford women's volleyball team member Laura Long competed for the Lady Panthers in a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship matchups this past weekend.

In a 3-2 semifinal round victory over Medaille, Long recorded 33 assists to send Pitt-Bradford to its second straight AMCC championship match. That title match ended with a 3-0 loss to Penn State Altoona. Long finished with 23 assists and six digs as the Lady Panthers finished the season with a record of 12-14.

Warren Area High School graduate and Penn State Behrend women's swim team member Julie Cook competed for the Lady Lions in a loss to Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday. Cook teamed with teammates to record a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:25.59. Cook also placed second in the 200 free with a swim of 2:46.50.

Eisenhower High School graduate and Penn State Behrend women's diving team member Emily Frederick competed for the Lady Lions in the diving competition.
