Erin Briggs of Russell was recently diagnosed with a rare form of small cell ovarian cancer.. On Saturday, Jan. 7, the local community raised over $11,000 to help Erin with medical expenses. On Saturday, Jan. 14, the PMEA District Band will be holding an event at the Union City High School. Thursday, Jan. 19, the Eisenhower High School Concert Band Mid will be holding their popular mid-winter concert. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
300 Club Drawing
Feb. 18, the EMHS Band Boosters are hosting a 300 Club drawing at the Frewsburg. N.Y., American Legion. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $10 and one ticket admits 2 people. A light dinner will be served. If anyone would like to purchase tickets, please call Kathy Mizak at 757-8766.
Raymond Shaffer passed away on Dec. 28, 2011 at his home with his wife Sharon Shaffer and his son Mark Shaffer by his side. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist church will be hosting a benefit dinner for the family. The church is located on Jackson Run Road between Warren and Sugar Grove. The dinner will take place on Jan. 28 from 4-7 p.m. Proceeds from this dinner will help pay for any medical bills and funeral cost. If you would like to donate but can't make the dinner, you can send any donations to the WACOPSE Credit Union in Warren, under Mark Shaffer's account.
A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The second Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
the Winter Blues
Due to the overwhelming response of the crafters in the Sugar Grove area the library will now be offering a monthly stamping class. The next class will be held Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Class members will create two cards, using a 3D dimensional and a valentine day theme card with textured embossing. A Feb. 13 class is also tentatively set. The cost of the class will be $4 per card. Please call the Sugar Grove Free Library at 489-7872 to reserve your seat for this class.
Monday, Jan. 16, there is no school scheduled for students as it is a professional development day for teachers only. Thursday, Jan. 26, and Friday, Jan. 27, are also professional development days for staff only and there will be no classes scheduled for students. Monday, Feb. 6th will be the make up day with class in session for the snow day used on Jan. 3rd.
