Treats for Troops is wrapping up

May 2, 2012
The Times Observer

The Chief Cornplanter Council Boy Scouts annual spring "Treats For The Troops" effort to send popcorn and peanuts to active-duty military is wrapping up.

This year's campaign is poised to raise a significant amount of money which will enable the Scouts to send the popcorn and peanuts overseas. Scout Executive Kevin Bonner noted that the final total cannot yet be reported as local organizations and individuals are still sending in their orders, even though the campaign officially ended on April 30.

"The support this effort receives from the people of Warren County is incredible." noted Bonner.

Once all orders are in, the popcorn and peanut companies ship the items directly to the USO, who then ships them off to military bases.

"Thousands of servicemen and women will know that the people of Warren County support them and their efforts on behalf of our Country." said Bonner. "We hope that, because of our efforts, the morale of the troops over there will be lifted."

Asked why the Scouts decided to head the effort, Bonner noted that, besides the fact that many of the military were once Scouts themselves, the council simply felt an obligation to show they care.

The Boy Scout Council would like to thank all the individuals, businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and others throughout Warren County who helped or contributed to the effort this year, and who help to make it so successful.

If you would like to help the Scouts support our military and no Scouts have knocked on your door for your contribution to the effort, checks may be made payable to "BSA" and mailed to the local Scout office, 316 Fourth Ave. in Warren until May 15 when the total orders will be placed. Please note "Treats For The Troops" on your check or envelope.
