Duo charged in pizza scam to pay for girl's ballet

August 8, 2014
Associated Press

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania couple face dozens of theft and related charges for allegedly going door-to-door selling pizza kit supposedly to raise money for their young daughter's ballet lessons, but which police say the couple really used to buy drugs.

Online court records don't list attorneys for 28-year-olds Jon Beltz Jr. and Nicole Cairns.

The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1kO0KpN ) reports that West Hills Regional Police, who patrol the city's suburbs, say the couple took "donations" of $18 to $20 from at least 69 residents.

The couple had their little girl in tow, prompting police Sgt. George Musulin to say, "They used this little girl as a ploy."

Beltz remained in the Cambria County Jail on Friday. The Associated Press could not immediately locate a phone number for Cairns.
