Post 658 holds off Blair rally

June 19, 2012
The Times Observer

Youngsville Post 658 kept its Senior American Legion Baseball League record perfect Monday with a 7-4 victory over Blair at Davis Street Field.

Youngsville took advantage of a big first inning, building a 4-0 lead after an inning thanks to five first-inning singles, a pair of walks and a couple of untimely Blair wild pitches. Post 658 would later make it 6-0 after three complete innings.

"We sure hit the ball," said Youngsville coach Tom Craig.

Collin Fantaskey entered the game for Blair in the third inning and quickly shut down Post 658's bats. However, the potent pitching combo of Cory Craig and Josh Lewis made sure the 6-0 lead would hold up.

Craig allowed three runs in four innings of work, but was also mowing down Blair batters at a quick rate. Through four innings, Craig struck out 10 batters before handing the ball to Lewis. Lewis pitched the final three innings, allowing only one additional Blair run on a balk.

Despite trailing by as many as six runs, Blair actually got close to tying things up in the sixth inning. The visitors would load the bases on Lewis before the Post 658 pitched induced a pop up on the infield to end the threat.

Blair got a runner on again early in the seventh, but a nifty 1-6-3 double play from Lewis to Craig to first baseman Sawyer Dininny ended the game.
