The AMVETS, AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS Post 50 brought home the “Most Patriotic AMVETS Post” in Pennsylvania for the eighth consecutive year.

Dakkota Slocum and Coltton Nelson submitted entries to the annual AMVETS Convention poster contest. Dakkota, left, placed second in the 6-8 grade category and Coltton placed first in the 3-5 grade category. Coltton’s entry will go on to AMVETS National Convention in Dayton, Fla., in August for judging. The 10th Annual Nyla Luvison 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for next Saturday, July 14, at 9:30 a.m.
The starting point for the race will be the Sugar Grove Fire Hall on School Street. Runners note this year's new start time. The cost is $20. Registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall.
The age divisions for the race will be 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-65, and 66 plus. T-shirts are guaranteed to first 150 entrants. Awards will be given for the first male and female overall, top three male and female finishers in each age group. The Children's Fun Run is free and will be held at the conclusion of the 5K. All little participants get something for their efforts.
Proceeds from the event are equally divided between the Cancer Care Center at the Warren General Hospital and the Eisenhower High School Cross Country Teams. A BBQ Chicken Dinner will be available at the fire hall starting at 10:30 a.m.on race day at a cost of $8/meal.

Summer Day Camp

Creative Card Class
The Sugar Grove Free Library will hold its monthly Creative Card Class. Monday, July 9 class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Two birthday cards will be created, one using the heat embossing technique and the other embellishments.
A special "Christmas in July" class is also planned for Saturday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two unique gift card holders, gift tags and a greeting card will be the projects; using punches, templates and paper folding techniques.
Cost for the regular monthly class is $8 and for the "Christmas in July" class $16. Whether a beginner or experienced card maker, make plans to join us for some creative fun. The Annual Eisenhower Barnyard Classic was held on Saturday, June 30. The tournament was held outdoors at Eisenhower High School. Thank you to all the volunteers and those in the Lady Knights Basketball program for hosting the event. All proceeds form the event benefit the Lady Knights Basketball Team.
