There are so many words that come to mind that would describe this year's 4th of July committee. I will use one, Outstanding.
We began meeting like always in January with four dedicated members. Within one month that number grew to 15, eight of which were new members with no clue the work and obstacles that lie ahead. Over the past six months our committee has weathered many storms with the most recent being Wednesday, the 4th. With their positive attitude, the ability to work together, and total TEAM effort, our committee put together one of the best 4th of July Celebrations in many years.
Personally, this was my 40th year. I have seen the highest of highs as well as the lowest of lows. This year has to be one of those highest of highs.
Four years ago when the Jaycees made a decision to drop the project due to lack of membership, a few past members decided this great tradition in Warren had to continue. The past three years were a real struggle, not with the tremendous community support but internally trying to find members that could work together plus buy into a proven system that worked so well for 60 years. I am very proud to say finally we have a committee dedicated to our great tradition plus devote the many hours it takes to make Warren's largest, most attended event happen.
Not only did they buy into our system, in their first year they made some very positive improvements. Also, our committee is 100 percent committed to the future of this celebration. Ideas are already on the table for the 66th annual 4th of July Celebration.
Lastly, I want to say Thank You to our committee, our very generous sponsors, the many volunteers, businesses for donations, and the thousands each year that come to our town to celebrate our nation's birthday, because they know that Warren, Pa., is and always will be the place to be on the 4th of July.
Sincerely yours,
Wally Post
65th annual 4th of July Event chairman
