To dance Sunday

The Slovenian Polka Boosters will have a club picnic and dance from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall. Frank Palumbi of Collier Township will provide music. Events include all types of dancing. The public is invited. For information, call Paul Leofsky at 563-7516.

Music in the Park

This week, "Only Humen" will provide rock music from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at Music in the Park at Soldiers & Sailors Park, Hickory St. at Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren, weather permitting. The series is sponsored by Northwest Savings Bank.

Wimpy Kid Movie

Looking for something to do indoors Saturday, Aug. 11? Consider coming to the Struthers Library Theatre at 11 a.m. to watch the second movie in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Rodrick Rules. This humorous movie about the trials and tribulations of middle school and big brothers can be enjoyed and appreciated by children age 9 and older. This free showing is part of the Flip, Jot and Flick program sponsored by the Warren Public Library, the Struthers Library Theatre and the Warren Times Observer. The winner of the creative writing contest will be announced before the movie starts. Popcorn and water will be available for 50 cents. Fourth of July

committee to meet

The Warren County 4th of July Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, to nominate and elect a board of directors. The meeting will be held at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center on Second Ave.

Win at bridge

The winners in this week's Monday evening Duplicate Bridge Game at the YMCA were Mary Anne Gibson and Doug Megill, first with 67; Mary Johnson and June Borger, second with 59; and Magda Fanaritis and Hal Conarro, third with 56.

Elk Township

Historical Society

Elk Township Historical Society (ETHS) at the former Scandia School, will have an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. The museum will be open, and knowledgeable guides will be on hand to offer tours and answer questions. Visitors can view the photographs of the 2012 amateur photography contest "Images of Elk Township" and vote for peoples' choice awards to be presented in October. Through the years, the society has become the hub of community activities. In addition to the museum, ETHS houses a lending library, which includes books, videos and magazines. The south room and outdoor pavilion may be reserved for family gatherings or parties. And starting in September during Library days on the second and fourth Wednesdays, a group gathers to learn new crafts, visit and share refreshments. The public is welcome at any event. Anyone who wants to donate items for the museum can do so for a specified period of time or as a permanent donation.

Class to breakfast

Youngsville High School Class of 1948 will have breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Richard's Restaurant in Youngsville.
