A new ambulance is on the way to the Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department.
The Pleasant Township supervisors approved a payment to help offset the costs.
The motion, made by Chairman Arden Knapp, authorized "$40,000 of fire tax money toward the purchase of a new ambulance."
The invoice for the ambulance should be in on Wednesday with a check cut early next week. The ambulance will also arrive sometime next week.
Knapp said that the payment leaves the fire services account with enough to cover typical bills, including the cost of insurance. He added that the budget is even tighter as the department has gone over budget on fuels due to increased costs for diesel.
The supervisors and staff of the fire department also discussed Hepatitis vaccinations. The department has seven or eight people interested in the three-part vaccination. Knapp said that the series costs approximately $300 per person. Supervisor Ronald Hultman opined that it might be possible to purchase the vaccine and have someone else administer it but Secretary Lea Ann Adams pointed out that, if you buy the vaccine at a place like CVS, "they give you the shot."
"It's a safety issue," Hultman said. Knapp added that they would work with the department to cover the costs, possible splitting costs 50-50.
Knapp also asked the fire department to determine how many of the calls they receive come from the coverage they provide to Watson Township. He said that the state gives the supervisors some authority to ask for payment from municipalities who receive fire services to help cover the ever-rising costs of workmen compensation insurance.
At this point, the numbers are for informational purposes only. While they could ask Watson for assistance, Knapp pointed out that "not that we're going to."
The supervisor's next meeting is November 11. The November 27 meeting has been moved to December 4 and the December 11 meeting has been moved to December 18. Meetings originally scheduled on December 11 and December 25 were canceled.
Two budget workshops were also set. The first is slated for November 9 at 1 p.m. A second session, if necessary, will be held on November 12 at 6:30 p.m.
All meetings are held at the township building.
