Members of the Dance Express Company in Warren performed extremely well at their first competition of the year - the StarQuest Dance Competition - held April 12-14 in Coraopolis, Pa. The Dance Express took home 12 "platinum" and 13 "high gold" medals along with multiple top overalls, special awards, choreography awards, costume awards and the coveted Apogee Award.
Adam Flagella was named "Teen Mr. StarQuest" and awarded a "Platinum Plus" medal for his lyrical solo. Molly Dies' choreography to "All the Rowboats" earned Abby Funari, Molly Huey, Jillian Funari, Flagella and Haeli Augenstein a "platinum" award for top overall group as well the Apogee Award - given to the highest scoring group number in the Classic Division.
Special awards were given to Huey, Jillian Funari, Sarah Dietsch and Alyssa Samuelson. Choreography nominations were given to Molly Dies, Nicole Cunningham and Linda Dies. The Junior Dance Express was also in attendance where they received 1st Place Top Overall Junior Groups for their lyrical piece "Seasons of Love." Overall, the Dance Express received 17 top standings.
Bob Yucha, Bob Tordella, Gene Sanden and Pete Hofert all had two birdies during Youngsville Area Senior Men's Golf League play Tuesday at Maplehurst Country Club. Bob Waterman, Ray Adams, Paul McCluskey, Dick Slagle, Gary Wood and Terry Jackson all had one birdie each.
The teams of Gary McCollough and John McHenry and Roy Swanson and Lee Cole led the Kim's Kafe Scratch League at Blueberry Hill Golf Club with scores of 36. Sam Marek and Rick Nowacki were one shot back with a score of 37. Swanson had an eagle on the 14th hole.
The Youngsville at Union City junior high track & field meet scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. The meet will be made up at 3 p.m., Monday, at Union City High School.
The Youngsville at Eisenhower baseball game originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. The game will be played at 4 p.m., Thursday, at Werner Park in Russell.
The Fort LeBoeuf at Warren baseball game originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. The game will be made up at 4 p.m., Thursday, at Old Legion Field in North Warren.
The Youngsville at Union City softball game originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
The Sheffield at Johnsonburg softball doubleheader originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
The Warren at Titusville boys tennis match originally scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
The 2013 racing season at Busti, N.Y.'s Stateline Speedway will begin this Sunday with a car show at the track followed by a test and tune session on the speedway. The pit gates will open at 1:30 p.m. for those participating in the practice session and those not participating in practice may pit outside the pit gate. The car show will run from 2 to 4 p.m. with practice running from 4 to 7 p.m.
There is no charge for the show or to watch the practice session. Race teams are encouraged to bring their transponders and receivers so they can be tested. Track concessions will not be open.
The Chautauqua County Summer Trap League kicked off its season last Thursday evening in windy conditions. Busti topped Carroll, 329-320 and Randolph bested Celoron, 336-333, in team competition.
Busti's Jake Lindell shot the lone 50 for the evening while Cindy Cable was high lady with a 47. Andrew Hvizdzak was high junior with a 49, Nick Mest and Brandon Allen shared high sub-junior with scores of 44, Red France was high super senior vet with a 48, Red Clark was high senior vet with a 48 and Fred Callahan and Bob Faga shared high vet honors with scores of 49.

Youngsville High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania freshman baseball player Cory Craig earned the win in the Vulcans' 11-3 victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) in the opening game of a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.
Craig scattered four hits and three walks over five scoreless innings.
Craig and the Vulcans return to action Friday, visiting Slippery Rock in doubleheader action.

The Warren Post 135 Junior American?Legion Baseball League team will be holding a third and final tryout at 1 p.m. Sunday at Old Legion Field in North Warren.
