The Thank A Vet Dam Run and Rally returns this weekend... bigger and better.
In addition to the annual ride across the top of Kinzua Dam, this year's event will include three days of music, food, and events at Hickory Creek Wilderness Ranch in Tidioute.
Over the first four years of the event, it has raised a total of $27,800 for the Hometown Heroes Fund of Warren County which makes that money available to the Warren County Veterans Council for veterans in need through its emergency fund.
Dam Benefit Ride Is Saturday
The Veterans Tribute Ride will begin late Saturday morning at Hickory Creek. "The escorted ride - provided by City of Warren Police Department and Warren County Sheriffs Office - will be going through town down Pennsylvania Avenue around 12:30 p.m. then across the Kinzua Dam before a 149-mile dice run through the Allegheny National Forest," Shawn Castro of Sikx Gun Choppers, who organizes the event, said.
The procession will cross the Hickory Street Bridge, take Pennsylvania Avenue east, and cross the Glade Bridge.
The cost to participate in the run is $20 per bike. Passengers who want to get in on the rolling of dice must pay $5.
"You won't need a bike to enjoy the music and support our Hometown Heroes," Castro said. "Thirty dollars per person allows you access to all the event shows and three days of camping on site" at Hickory Creek.
Entertainment opens Thursday night at American Legion Post #135 in Warren with 100 Proof Justice.
Events at Hickory Creek will run from Friday through Sunday. "Friday night will include headliner 100 Proof Justice from Buffalo, N.Y., featuring the hit single from their new CD Freedom Isn't Free," Castro said.
After the ride on Saturday, the performances will include "Cody McCarver - formerly of Confederate Railroad - in their fourth show supporting Hometown Heroes," Castro said, "specal guest returning for his fourth year - Sean Patrick McGraw - and also featuring up-and-coming Adam Dean Mullins performing his latest single release All My Favorite Memories."
"Sunday we wrap it all up with Erie's premiere country rock band American Ride Band," he said.
