PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say a man has been taken into custody after pointing a laser at a Philadelphia police helicopter during a search.
WPVI-TV reports it happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday while officers were responding to a report of a woman screaming. Police say that while teams searched in the air, someone below pointed a green laser at the helicopter.
Police say they arrested a man about 15 minutes later and recovered a laser pointer on him. Authorities say he may face charges; his name has not been released.
Investigators say the call for the screaming woman turned out to be unfounded.
Search on hold
YORK, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania police department suspended its search for a missing 7-month-old boy because there is no new information on the baby's location, the chief said Monday.
The search for Hamza Ali began last week after he was allegedly kidnapped by his mother's boyfriend. Officers from several police departments near Columbia have used dogs and boats to try to find the child, who they suspect might be dead.
"There's no plan in the very near future to reinitiate" the search, Columbia Borough Police Chief Jack Brommer told The York Daily Record/Sunday News.
Ummad Rushdi, 30, was charged with kidnapping the infant on Aug. 4 from a home in Upper Darby where the couple had been staying. Police have said Rushdi's brother told them that Rushdi admitted killing the child and burying him in an unnamed location.
Neighbor's pool drowning
COWANSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - State police say a 4-year-old boy has drowned after climbing a locked gate to get into a neighbor's swimming pool.
Troopers from the Kittanning barracks were called after little Colby Nickel wandered from home in Washington Township, Armstrong County, late Saturday afternoon.
The boy's family found him motionless in a neighbor's pool and called 911. Police later determined the boy climbed over the gate that blocks access to the above-ground pool's deck and either jumped or fell into the water.
Police aren't sure how long the boy was in the pool before he was found about 7 p.m.
He was flown to Children's Hospital of UPMC, where he was pronounced dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled his death an accident.
JIM THORPE, Pa. (AP) - The death of a woman who fell from a waterfall at Lehigh Gorge State Park in eastern Pennsylvania has been ruled accidental.
Authorities say 31-year-old Perla Cabral was hiking with someone else when she fell about 40 feet from Glen Onoko Falls in Lehigh Township around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Carbon County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik says the New York resident was initially responsive when emergency workers arrived, but died as they were taking her out of the park.
Nalesnik conducted an autopsy Monday. He says she died of multiple blunt-force injuries.
Cabral's website describes her as a DJ, musician and event promoter in New York.
