Barbara Kay Schumacher, 87, of Mineral, Virginia died peacefully at her Lake Anna home on August 21, 2013. She was born on August 2, 1926 in Warren, Pennsylvania to the late Howard and Esther Kay. She lived in Pennsylvania to the late Howard and Esther Kay. She lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.
Barbara was an independent woman with many creative talents. In her youth she was a pilot and ski instructor. She had a career as a social worker in Atlantic City. In retirement she spent time with travel, music, gardening and various art projects.
Barbara was a mother to four sons, Gregory (Jill) of Mineral, VA; Mark (Cindy) of Middletown, MD; Gary (Tina) of Petersburg, VA and Alec (Mary) of Myersville, MD. She will be remembered lovingly by her eight grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and her sisterinlaw Janet Kay. Barbara is survived by a brother Thomas Kay (Patricia) and was preceded in death by her brother Gordon Kay.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church in Warren Pa, on September 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Hospice, 500 Faulconer Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
