Honored for Alzheimer’s Walk

September 13, 2013
The Times Observer

Pictured is Laurie Sheriff, director of admissions at Golden Living Kinzua, Warren, receiving a plaque from the Alzheimer's Association for their team raising almost $900 for the Alzheimer's Walk in 2012. Kristen Bires, education and outreach manager of the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter Office of the Alzheimer's Association in Erie, presented the first place award at the launch party for the 2013 Walk to end Alzheimers. There is still time to join this year's Walk, to be held Sept. 28, by registering a team, joining an existing team, or walking as an individual. To date, 13 teams are registered, plus many individuals. Not all participants need to actually "walk" to be part of the event; many volunteers are needed. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Incentives are offered for various levels of donations collected. A brief program will kick off the walk at 9 a.m., and will include the Promise Garden with speakers and music by JC Entertainment. Promise flowers will line the path where the walkers will return following the leisurely 1.3-mile course along the Allegheny River at Betts Field. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered. For more information, call Sheriff at 726-0820 or online at alz.org/walk.
