The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) held its annual North East Symposium in Hershey Sept. 26-28. Lt. Col. Donald D. Smith - USMC (Ret.) and Capt. James Levesen - USN (Ret.) represented the regional Bucktail Chapter of MOAA at the symposium. Keynote speaker was Vice Admiral Norbert Ryan, national president of the MOAA.
The symposium theme was an emphasis on the MOAA mission. In light of sequestration, the eventual draw down of the military and possible change in retirement and medical benefits for future military personnel, the symposium brought to light the need to keep a watchful vigilance. MOAA suggests every officer and enlisted stay aware of the changes that may occur, and how those changes may adversely affect the military preparedness of the U.S.
The Bucktail Chapter will hold its monthly meeting and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Warren Holiday Inn. All active and retired officers are encouraged to attend. Ed Burris, county veterans representative, will speak.
