Current Money Scams. As of Oct. 17 the Warren-based state police have received reports of several incidents of persons in the Warren County area receiving mailings in which the mail recipient has been identified as a lottery or sweepstakes winner. The recipient is then provided with a check that appears legitimate for cashing with some of the money to be sent back to the person mailing the flyer via Western Union or other electronic methods of transferring money.
Persons in the area are reminded to be aware of scams of this nature and not to cash any check or other document that is believed to be of legal tender unless the information is verified to be true and accurate.
Crash. Warren-based state police report on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., a vehicle legally parked at the Rouse Suites was struck in the passenger's side by an unknown vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warren-based state police.
Burglary. Warren-based state police report between June 1 and Oct. 17 an unknown individual entered an Eldred Twp. residence and removed four firearms.
Burglary. After a continuing investigation, Warren-based state police report they were able to recover all six guns that were stolen when Raymond Wright, 20, of Spartansburg, entered a Grand Valley residence on Aug. 21, 2013. Wright was arraigned before District Magistrate Cynthia Lindemuth for burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property. Bail was set at $50,000. He is currently being held in the Crawford County Jail on other charges.
