Winterfest 2014 is still on for this weekend, whether it's snowing or not.
"People can still bring their sleds just in case," Winterfest Planning Committee Chairman Sharon Miller said on Wednesday. "We have plenty of activities for people to come up and enjoy...there will be lots to do and keep people entertained."
With a forecast calling for a high of 25 degrees and a low of 14 degrees over the weekend, Miller said snowshoe races, frisbee barrel toss, two-person sled relay, a tennis ball toss and three-legged races are some of the alternative events held over the weekend at Chapman State Park.
The Jim Lobdell Memorial Sled Dog Races have been canceled due to the weather, but the I.W.P.A. Canine Weight Pull is on for Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.
Huskies from the Tales of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue will be at the Meet the Musher Spaghetti Supper at the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. with a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m.
Seventeen vendors will be under the tents, fire barrels will be set up throughout the park, the Siberian Husky rescue will still be there, hiking trails will be open and the Polar Bear Plunge is still on for 2 p.m. Saturday.
The "Warren Champions on Ice" will host a figure skating presentation at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by a learn to skate program from 4 to 5 p.m. The learn to skate program will also run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Skates will be available at the park.
"We have plenty of activities for people," she said. "There will be lots of good hot foods and a lot of entertainment out in the fresh air and outdoors...if we have enough snow we will have skis and snowshoes available."
Vendors featured under the Richardson Landscape Soup Kitchen at the Winterfest this year include Ralph E's, chili; Ferro Cucina, stuffed pepper; Jack's Tap House, Cajun shrimp bisque; Laury Gilfert, ham and bean; Carole Torrance, Italian wedding; Sharon Miller, buffalo chicken; Styles Unlimited, chicken vegetable stew; and Robin Schuler, chili. Also at Winterfest 2014 are All About Turkey, the Winterfest hot dog stand; quesadillas by Glade VFW; Pit Stop Concession and the Donut Wagon.
