The Philomel Club of Warren met Feb. 5 for its "Viva l' Italia Ancora" program. Chairperson Katherine Dolan introduced performers for the day, including Deacon Joseph A. Lucia Jr., performing a vocal solo by George Frederick Handel and a piano number written by Johnny Pearson. Vocalists Carolyn Worley and Mary Beth Whiting (after explaining the meanings of the words) sang Italian songs by Handel and by Durante and Scarlatti. Violinist Josephine Simonsen performed Sonata in D Minor by Francesco Germiniani. All performers were accompanied by Joan Eighmey, who also did a solo performance, Three Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. Worley and Lucia also performed a vocal duet written by Liza Lehmann.
Hostesses for the Valentine's Day-themed tea were Liz Brown and Mary Donaldson.
The next meeting of the Philomel Club will be held March 2 at the Woman's Club on Market St., Warren. The program for the day will be "Duets and Dances" and will feature Cathy Peterson, Denise Pearson, James Pearson, Joseph Dolan and Vera Finger.
