Joyce E. (Black) Wohlers, 73, of 794 River Rd., Starbrick, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at UPMC Hamot after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Joyce was born March 8, 1940 in Starbrick, a daughter of the late Harry and Marjorie (Caldwell) Black. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Youngsville and was a member of the Youngsville American Legion Auxiliary. She had previously worked at the New Process Co. but had been employed for the last 35 years at the P.V.I. restaurant and bar, their family business. She enjoyed all the trips to the casino and her beloved pets, Sammie, Dugan, Oliver and Butters. She had a smile that could light up a room and always made you feel welcome. Joyce was the heart and soul of her family and loved each and every one of them more than words could describe. She will be deeply missed by her many patrons, friends and family.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years George "Bucky" Wohlers, whom she married November 1, 1958 in Warren, a daughter Susan Wohlers, and her partner Piper Vanord, her siblings, Robert Black of Sheffield, Karen Lupienski of Warren, Keith "Butch" Black ,and his wife, June, of Oklahoma, Susan (Jerry) Lyon of Warren, her stepgrandchildren, Ash, Lily and Phoenix Lindell, several nieces and nephews, several greatnieces and nephews and 1 greatgreat niece.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Jack, Clyde and Ken Black.
Friends will be received at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 18 2nd Street in Youngsville, on Saturday, March 8, from 15 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. Michael Sperry, pastor of West Spring Creek Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Starbrick.
In lieu of flowers the family strongly suggests donations be made to the Hospice of Warren County or the Warren Cancer Center, both located at 2 Crescent park, Warren, Pa 16365.
