The recycling center is open 24 hours a day and the items that are accepted are as follows:
Newspapers, magazines, catalogs and phone books, etc., numbers 1 and 2 plastics, but no lawn chairs or toys; clear, brown and green glass; tin and aluminum cans.
Pop cans are also accepted and the Boys Scouts of Troup 35 receive these cans and the profit goes to support the local troop. Anyone caught taking the cans will be prosecuted.
Remove labels, caps and rings. Items should be rinsed to reduce the odor and crushed if possible, except for glass food containers. Your tax dollars pay for this service in Sheffield Township so please do not abuse the recycling center.
The Sheffield Township Supervisors' meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman, James McMillen. Roy Burton of the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department Fire Police was present requesting the dues be paid for 16 members at $10 per member for a total of $160. Chief Madigan requested a copy of the list of the names of the Fire Police with their radio numbers.
The February stats for Sheffield Township Police Department is as follows: 6 accidents investigated, 3 theft complaints, 2 reports of suspicious persons, 5 disturbance calls, 1 harassment complaint, 3 requests to assist other agencies, 4 requests to check welfare of others, 2 mental health calls, 1 assault, 2 ATV complaints, 3 traffic complaints, 1 property dispute, 2 domestics, 5 reports of suspicious vehicles, 1 disorderly conduct, 5 complaints of traffic hazards, 1 assist to EMS and 3 child custody complaints.
Liquid Fuels Allocation in the amount of $60,615.68 was deposited into the State Fund for road improvements.
The following dates were set: spring road inspection, Saturday, April 5 at 8 a.m., spring clean-up day Saturday, June 14 with permission from school, Parks and Recreation and Tree Commission annual meeting in preparation for Arbor Day which is Friday, April 25 will be Thursday, March 20. The summer program will run for nine weeks beginning June 16 through Aug. 15. The last day for school is Tuesday, June 10 and the Fireman's Festival begins Aug. 17-23.
The supervisors reviewed a letter that will be sent to all oil and gas haulers along with timber companies in regards to bonding of our roads. The letter will not be sent until these signs are up and the roads are videotaped.
Supervisor Labesky drafted a letter to be sent to PennDOT for the dredging underneath the bridge at Rt. 666 during the re-construction of this bridge by PennDOT. A copy of this letter will also be sent to all dignitaries, Sen. Hutchinson, Rep.Rapp, Sen. Scarnati, and the Secretary of Transportation for PennDOT.
The salt supply was discussed and Supervisor Labesky stated that we have 10 ton on hand and waiting for a load that was placed three weeks ago. All in all though we are in good shape, they use approximately one ton a day in the event of a storm.
Supervisor Bulicz spoke about the water leak on Dunham Street and the road being closed. The authority is working on a bad leak in this area.
Other matters discussed:
- Winterfest forwards a thank you to us for the use of our bleachers during the recent festivities.
- We have received the 2012 and 2011 audit report for the Municipal Authority auditors, Kersey and Associates.
- Cameron Energy will be drilling four oil wells in Sheffield Township on the Cochran Lot. D & S Energy will be drilling in Hamilton Township. Wilmoth Interest will be drilling 27 wells off of 259 in Sheffield Township.
The next meeting of the Sheffield Township Supervisors is Monday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheffield Hospitality Center.
Cherry Grove VFD
21st Annual Chili Festival will take place on Sunday, March 16 at the Cherry Grove VFD from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Sheffield United Methodist Church will be having a soup and pie luncheon at noon on Sunday, March 16. This is a fundraiser for the church budget.
Sheffield Card Club
The Sheffield Card Club met at the home of Mary Rose Farr in Warren for an evening of 500 cards. Taking home the first price with high score was Elaine McMeans, second was Trudy Kulka and third was Carol Jandrew.
The Sheffield Cemetery Association will have its semi-annual board meeting on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Sheffield Township office. Anybody with any cemetery business is welcome to attend.
Sheffield High School
The Sheffield High School Trap Team will have a mandatory safety orientation on Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m. at the Sheffield Rod and Gun Club with practice to follow, so come prepared. Parental permission slips are in the school office, these must be filled out prior to practice.
Kinzua Allegheny Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation would like you to join them at the Sheffield Fire Hall as they are hosting the 24th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on Friday, March 28. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7:30.

Give Cancer the BOOT Party for Scott Steffan on Saturday, March 15 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Sheffield Lion's Den. A chicken BBQ, DJ, games, 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction are taking place to raise money to help the family with medical bills and expenses.

The Jack V. Barner Memorial Bowling Tournament got under way on Saturday, March 1 and continues every Saturday through March. If you get a chance stop down and support the tournament. The Chinese auction is full of prizes that have been donated.
