Clean Up Day
Clean up day for Sugar Grove Borough residents will be on Saturday, May 10. Garbage can be dropped off from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Post Office. This is for Sugar Grove residents only. The cost is $5 per load and items must be unloaded by the resident. No batteries, tires, yard debris, or wet paint can be dropped off. There will be a separate collection of electronics such as printers, computers, TVs, fax machines, small kitchen appliances, and other small electronic devices.
The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. Each month lunch is held on the 1st Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run Road. On the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.
Registration is now open at the Imaginative Preschool of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church for the 2014-15 school year. The preschool has been in operation for more than 25 years. Mother's Day Flowers
The Sugar Grove Fire Department will be holding a special sale of flowers for Mother's Day. Arrangements are $30 and will vary in types and colors. There are also 7-inch flowering plants available for $20. Orders must be received by Saturday. Pickup or delivery will be May 10 and will be available inside the Sugar Grove Borough. Delivery is available to Warren, Jamestown, and Corry. For special pricing on those deliveries or for more information, call Amanda 730-3490 or Sue 489-7868. The Sugar Grove Library Book Club will held their April meeting on Monday, the 28th. Thank you to Debbie Penley who led us in the study of People of the Book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Geraldine Brooks. Moving ahead to May, Book Club will be meeting on May 19th. The book selected is Time Warped by Claudia Hammond. Pick up a copy today and consider joining us at the Library for Book Club.
The Chandlers Valley Community Center, a nonprofit organization, at 6250 Jackson Run Road will have a flea market every third Saturday of the month beginning May 17 and through Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this time, there are openings for vendors. A 10 x 10 space will be $10 and a 20 x 20 space will be $15. Vendors will be seen clearly from traffic traveling both directions on Jackson Run Road. Vendors will be set up in the Chandlers Valley ball field. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or you would like more information on the event, you can contact Marlene Falconer at 489-3760.
The Chandlers Valley Community Center is looking for vendors for the upcoming fall Sportsmen's Challenge. The challenge will take place on August 23rd from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. This event will include the people pull, judged pie baking contest, pie auction, judged photo contest, children's games and events, a Chinese auction, the popular lawn mower obstacle course, corn hole tournament, sportsmen's challenge, pre-1965 farm tractor cruise in, craft vendors, food vendors, flea market, and more.

The Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758 is currently signing up players for its baseball team, ages 14 to 19. The team is for students who attend Eisenhower High School and also students living in the Eisenhower attendance area who attend a different high school, or live in the area and are home-schooled. The team will compete in the Warren County league this summer, and the players will gain valuable in-game experience on all aspects of baseball. The schedule will be created in early May, with games slated to begin in early June. If you love the game of baseball , the competition it brings, playing with your friends and for your community, they we urge you to contact new coach, Jeff Young, at (814) 730-9113. He will also be conducting signups at the pavilion at Werner Park in Russell on Saturday, May 3red from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
The Hessel Valley Lutheran Church will have a spaghetti dinner Thursday, May 8, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. to benefit House of Hope. House of Hope provides transitional housing to women being released from the Warren County Prison as well as the state correctional institutions in Pennsylvania. Most are dealing with drug and alcohol and/or mental health issues. The House of Hope provides a safe place from which to transition back into the community. During their stay at the House of Hope women will have a chance to learn healthy coping skills in a loving, supportive environment where they will experience the love of God through staff and volunteers. We will work with churches, probation, counseling agencies, and other social services, as well as education and employment agencies to prepare the women to lead healthy, happy productive lives without the crutches of drugs, alcohol and poor relationships. They will acquire life skills that empower them to break the cycle of entrapment in the criminal justice system. Cost for the homemade spaghetti dinner is a free will donation. Take-outs will be available. All proceeds of the dinner will go to House of Hope which is located in Warren.
The Sugar Grove Library and the Sugar Grove Community is working to plan the 2nd Annual Sugar Grove Library Hunger games happening Saturday, June 7th. Individuals and teams need to register on or before May 16th. The cost is $25 per person.
If you missed the Hunger Games event last year, it is a community street fair that involves good clean fun competitions and will provide nonperishable food items to fill the local food banks. This event will not only raise funds for the local library, it will assist in replenishing the area food banks. Local businesses are encouraged now to get in on the fun. Vendor forms are now available at the Sugar Grove Library. There are spots for craft and food vendors to be at the event. There will be no alcohol, tobacco or gun sales. If you would like to volunteer to be on the set up crew, take down crew or score keeper you can also contact the library. We are in need of numerous volunteers to make this day a success.
This is an event like no other. Registration forms are now available at the Sugar Grove Library website, www.sgfreelibrary.org/ or you can obtain a registration from by stopping into the Library. Last year there were events such as rock climbing, bungee running, archery, obstacle courses, races geo cashing, laser tag, hoop shoots, baseball throws, and more. It all happens in the streets of Sugar Grove. There area also events for the younger crowd as well. Watch for more information as the 2nd Annual Hunger Games event gets closer. Mark your calendars and plan to attend.
The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Summer Day Camp Program is now taking registrations for the coming 2014 summer. The Day Camp offers different options - full-time, part-time, or drop-in day care services or weekly camp enrollment. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church has been granted a license by the State of Pennsylvania for day care services. The Summer Day Camp facilities, program, and staff meet all state regulations for a licensed day care and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, handicap, ancestry, national origin, age, or sex.
The camp is now certified in New York State and can take subsidized children from Chautauqua County. Assistance to defray the daily fees of the Summer Day Camp Program is available through the Subsidized Child Day Care Program in Pennsylvania. Contact the Economic Opportunities Council of Warren County at 726-1361.
The facility will be open Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., from June through August. If you would like more information on the Summer Day Program or on the Subsidization Program, please call the church office at 489-3105.

The Sugar Grove Elementary School will hold an open house on Friday, May 16, from 5-7 p.m. All former and current students, teachers and support staff are invited to attend. Come and catch up with retired teachers and see your local school for one last time before everyone moves to the Eisenhower area. If anyone has any scanned photos of school memories or the construction of the Elementary School they can email them to email@example.com.
