Jesus Christ Superstar, presented by the Warren Players, explodes onto the historic Struthers Library Theatre stage May 15-17 at 8 p.m. and May 18 at 2 p.m.
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar pthe biblical story of the last seven days of Jesus of Nazareth's life (as portrayed by Logan Beard), largely from the perspective of Judas (Rob Buckler). This two-time Tony Award winning production for Best Musical Review was originally created as a rock album and was not envisioned as a theatrical production. The first authorized American concert took place on July 11, 1971, at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena. Jesus Christ Superstar ubsequently debuted as a musical theater production on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in October, 1971. According to director, Deborah Murphy; "We are keeping with Mr. Webber's original vision, striving to create more of a rock arena feel and less that of a full-blown theatrical production."
