The Warren County Conservation District knows where the wild things are.

The annual WCCD summer conservation camps are coming up in June and July.

“The theme this year for all of our summer camps is Where the Wild Things Are,” according to a WCCD release. “Come learn about the wild things that live in the water and the trees, in the soil and among the leaves and we’ll follow the tracks to where the wild things are.”

Youth Conservation Camp (YCC) is a day camp for students entering grades seven through nine. It will run for three days – June 15 through 17 – from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This camp focuses on the philosophy of learning by doing,” according to the release. “The majority of the time is spent in the field where campers learn about trees and plants, soil, aquatics, ecology, wildlife, farming, and more. Representatives of the PA Fish and Boat Commission, the PA Game Commission, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Kalbfus Club, and others along with the Warren County Conservation District present several programs.”

YCC is limited to 15 students and the application deadline is May 26.

“Children’s Nature Camp (CNC) is geared towards elementary school students from first through sixth grades and is broken up into three age groups,” according to the release. “CNC I (July 27 and 28) includes children entering first and second grades, CNC II (July 15 and 16) is for children entering third and fourth grades, and CNC III (July 12 and 13) is fifth and sixth graders for the 2021-2022 school year.”

CNC will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the pavilion of the Hatch Run Conservation Demonstration Area on Hatch Run Road.

“Children will learn and discover the uniqueness and importance of water, soil, plants, and animals in our local environment,” according to the release. “Kids in the Children’s Nature Camp will also have a chance to play in the stream and fish in the pond; where some campers have caught their first fish.”

“Our Kindergarten Nature Camp (KNC) is for children going into kindergarten this fall,” according to WCCD. “This camp will also be based out of the pavilion of the Hatch Run Conservation Demonstration Area on Hatch Run Road.”

The one-day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 29.

“This will be a fun-filled camp learning about water, plants, animals, and soils – be prepared to get wet and dirty,” according to the release. “There will be crafts, games, and exploring in nature. This camp will be limited to 10 kids so act fast.”

The application deadline for KNC and all CNCs is June 23rd. The cost for each camp is as follows: YCC – $60 per child, CNC – $40 per child, and KNC – $20 per child.
