SCRAMBLE HELD

The 28th annual Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund Golf Scramble took place on May 14 at Jackson Valley Golf Club with the Youngsville American Legion Post 658 as grand sponsor.

Special sponsors included the KC Foundation Inc., the Leofsky Foundation and the Jackson Valley Golf Club. Scholarship fund trustees would like to thank the golfers, patrons, volunteers, and Tim Sandberg, tournament chairman, for their ongoing support.

Free Job Workshops: Wednesday, June 22, Danielle Ditz will hold three separate career development workshops at the Youngsville Public Library. The first workshop, focusing on SkillUP PA, is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. SkillUP PA is an in-person session with walk-ins welcome. SkillUP PA provides access to more than 6,000 free, online skills training courses to help prepare jobseekers for a new career path, enhance an existing skill-set and more. Stop in to receive one-on-one assistance on how to sign-up for, navigate, and utilize SkillUP PA.

From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Ditz will have an open, walk-in question-and-answer session. Ask personalized questions regarding job searches, PA CareerLink, free job training opportunities and more. No registration is needed. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Ditz will lead “Job Upskilling & Reskilling,” a workshop is available for in-person, virtual or phone attendance. LIBRARY SUMMER PROGRAMMING

Free Snack Program: Through Aug. 19, children ages 18 and under can stop by during library business hours to take a free snack. Snacks will be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. No registration required. This is the seventh year of the Youngsville Public Library’s free summer snack program. This year the library is partnering with the Child Hunger Outreach Program to help supplement snack costs.

Fiction And Fitness Program: A free six-part series taking place through August, the Fiction and Fitness program is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12 but anyone is welcome to participate. Fiction and Fitness takes place at Island Park on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 10 to 11a.m., rain or shine. No registration required. Each program in the free six-part series features: themed stories with a corresponding fitness activity, a healthy snack, and a take-home craft. Educational Escapades Program: The library is also hosting a free, six-part series at Chapman State Park through August. The target ages are children ages 4 to 12 but all are welcome. Held at Chapman State Park, Pavilion 2 on the first and third Thursdays each month (Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon, PA 16313) from 10 to 11 a.m., rain or shine. No registration required. Each program in this free six-part series features nature stories, nature facts, hands-on nature exploration and a take-home craft. The July 7 theme is “Insects & Leaf Litter Critters” and the July 21 theme is “Track The Poop” to learn about animal tracks and animal scat. STEM-ulating Stories With Sara: A free, four-part program starting in July, STEM-ulating Stories With Sara is targeted for children between the ages of 5 and 12 but all are welcome. The location is the Youngsville Public Library, 100 Broad St., from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1. No registration is required. Each program features the pairing of stories with fun, interactive STEM activities/craft. A free healthy “grab and go” snack will also be provided. Toddler Story Time: Free program offered the second Tuesday of each month at the Youngsville Public Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Target ages are 3 to 5, but all are welcome. Yard Sale: Boy Scout Troop 22 will hold a yard sale at the Irvine Presbyterian Church, 909 National Forge Road, today from 8 to 11 a.m.

ENTERTAINMENT

Music in the Park, Warren: Upcoming concerts at Solders & Sailors Park on Fridays at 7 p.m. include Smokehouse on June 22 and the Jeff Fetterman Band on June 29. Concerts are free.

Irvine-Newbold Tour: Thursday, June 30t, at 6 p.m., tour the grounds of the once-lavish and now razed Irvine-Newbold Estate. Meet at the Wilder Museum, 51 Erie Ave., Irvine, Pa. Proper footwear is a must. The cost for the tour is $5 All proceeds benefit the Wilder Museum. For more information call 814-723-1795.

Youngsville High School 50+ Luncheon: Tuesday, July 12, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Youngsville Fire Hall, the luncheon is open to all Youngsville High School graduates who graduated 50 or more years ago. The YHS class of 1971 will be the honored guests, with the host classes the YHS Classes of 1969 and 1970. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Sandwiches, beverage, cake, plates, and flatware are provided. The event welcomes YHS who graduated 50 or more years ago as well as guests and past teachers. YHS Coming Home Events: A tentative schedule for the 2022 Youngsville High School Coming Home event have been compiled. Friday, Sept. 30, there will be a campfire at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 1, an alumni breakfast at Station 61 begins at 9 a.m.; the side room of the restaurant is reserved. Also on Oct. 1, an evening dinner/dance will be held at the Youngsville Fire Hall. The dinner buffet is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. by reservation at a cost of $22 per person, with the Alumni Dance from 8 to 11 p.m. costing $10 a person for the dance only. The band is TRIXX.

Clean Water Day Event: Saturday, June 25, at Chapman State Park (4790 Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon) will be a Clean Water Day event. The event is open to all ages and is free, but pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Activities will be continuous from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a clean-up and afternoon activities. Clean-up activities at the lake and stream are from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch from noon to 1 p.m. and activities from 1 to 4 p.m.

Kayaks/canoes will be available for the lake clean-up. Garbage bags, buckets, gloves, etc. will be provided. Participate in hands-on activities in the afternoon. Activities include: stream exploration and simulations, trash tea, aquatic invasive species, and more. The mobile Harmful Algal Blooms Lab will be on-site. All materials will be provided.
