MISCELLANEOUS NEWS
Care to Knit Program: All centers in Warren and Forest counties will be participating in the Care To Knit program. We all care about the folks in our community in need, whether it is someone in a nursing home that would treasure the lap blanket you made or a child that would feel special wearing a hat created by someone who cares. Giving back makes a difference to our community. Yarn will be available at each Center. Stop in and sit a while with friends or take your knitting home to work on when you can. Donations of yarn are always welcome too, to keep the program going. Contact the Allegheny Community Center (814-723-4180, 42 Clark St., Warren) if you are interested in participating and/or would like to donate yarn.
Food Pantries: In an effort to support members of the community experiencing hardship, Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis St.) partners with Second Harvest Feeding America Program. The program is open to all members of the community. Youngsville Free Methodist Food Distribution days are the first and third Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. until gone. Use the March Avenue entrance to the church for the program. There is no early admittance and a limit of one bag per household. Food items will vary depending on the availability of goods weekly. Those getting food are only allowed to attend once a week. For more information call the Youngsville Free Methodist Church at 814-563-9009. An additional food distribution site is Divergent-Warren (135 Conewango Ave., Warren) on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until gone. Use the rear entrance.
Out & About Program: There are dinner bus trips through the Allegheny Community Center (ACC) in Warren. Do you need a night out, want to enjoy a nice meal, not worry about driving, and get time to socialize with your friends and neighbors? Then you will want to take advantage of this program. Lynda Baxter, ACC staff person extraordinaire, has just the thing for you. Sign up for one of Lynda’s dinner bus trips. Every other month Lunda takes buses of folds out and about to a local restaurant. In December she had three buses filled for touring Warren, to see all the Christmas lights, and then a stop at the Plaza for pie and coffee. Call the ACC to save a seat for February’s “Out & About” trip. The buses will fill up fast so don’t wait. 814-723-4180.
Drumming Circle: This multi-generational program is for everyone. Conductor Rich Schuler will have you drumming in no time. Never been? You should try it out. It’s a lot of fun for everyone and it’s free due to a grant through the Department of Aging. Drumming is held the first Friday of every month at Warren Music Conservatory (220 Pennsylvania Avenue West, 814-580-3913) from 6:30 pm-7:45 pm.
