The Shakespeare Troupe brought the Bard’s tragedy to the riverbank

Times Observer photo by Heather Cathcart-Norris The Shakespeare Troupe of Warren Players Club performed Macbeth at Soldiers and Sailors Park Amphitheater this past weekend to crowds of all ages. Pictured are Michael Stenberg and Caitlin Webster portraying Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

The beautiful weather over the weekend provided a unique opportunity for The Shakespeare Troupe of Warren Players Club to perform Macbeth outside. Led by Director Rachel Stowe, her vision of an outdoor performance, inspired by larger cities that regularly hold outdoor showings of Shakespeare, came to life. The play in the open air, as performed in Shakespeare’s time, added accessibility, as passersby stopped to enjoy the free performance.

Since February, the group has been rehearsing under the roof of the First Lutheran Church in Warren and then, as weather permitted, outdoors at the amphitheater at Soldiers and Sailors Park.

The Shakespeare Troupe of Warren Players believes “Shakespeare can be for everyone…not just us stone-cold weirdos who studied Literature and Theater in college.” Since its formation, the troupe has chosen and performed a Shakespearean play, and all interested in joining the troupe are encouraged to audition.

Starting at $2.99/week.
