Youngsville Life: Library holds first aid certification class

Photo submitted to the Times Observer Area residents are pictured practicing the technique for chest compressions during a Hi-Ed CPR/AED/Standard First Aid certification class held recently at the Youngsville Public Library.

The Youngsville Public Library hosted a Hi-ED CPR/AED/Standard First Aid certification class Friday.

Some of the 10 participants are employed at Ellwood or Whirley or other places while some were just getting certified for personal betterment reasons. A light system on the dummies’ upper right shoulder indicates whether the chest compressions are being administered with the proper force and if they are being repeated at the proper cadence.

The hands-on course provided certified training necessary to respond to cardiac emergencies, provide basic first aid, and use of an automated external defibrillator in a safe and effective manner.

“Youngsville Library has partnered with Warren Forest Hi-Ed many times before,” said Kristy Wallace, library director. “We know that it’s important to offer Hi-Ed classes in the Youngsville Area because sometimes driving distance can factor into whether an individual can get to and from Hi-Ed class in a timely manner. This is just one more way our library tries to serve as a community hub.”

The library will host two other Hi-Ed classes this summer. On Wednesday there will be an iPhone/iPad class from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. there will be a CANVA course. Both classes require pre-registration and pre-payment through the Hi-Ed website. Cost for each Hi-Ed class is $29. There is a quick-link on the Youngsville Library homepage (YoungsvilleLibrary.org) that will direct students to both the iPhone/iPad and the CANVA course registration site. CANVA is a class for anyone who is in charge of making fliers and/or social media posts to promote fundraisers or other events for their church or organization. CANVA is a free graphic design platform – complete with countless prefabbed templates/fonts/images- that allows users to create professional looking social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents, fliers, and other visual content.
