Pictured is a past Preschool Story Time. Join Miss Diane for stories, songs, music, and fun. Targeted ages 3-6 but all are welcome. No registration is necessary. Just stop by and join in the fun. Preschool Story Time is held the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10:30 am – 11:00 am.

Youngsville Library offers free snacks, programs

(a) Free Snack Program: Free summer snack program is going on now through Friday, August 23rd at the Youngsville Library. This is the 9th year that YPLibrary has provided free snacks to anyone who stops by during business hours. The snacks are located in totes in the library’s lobby, self-serve style. This is the third year that YPLibrary has partnered with the C.H.O.P. organization (Child Hunger Outreach Program). Snacks are provided by C.H.O.P. and Friends of the Library. Please be sure to take advantage of this great program!

(b) Book Club: YPLibrary’s monthly book club “Reading Between the Spines” meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. July 9th they will be discussing the book “The Covenant of Water” by Abraham Verghese. The book being discussed in August will be “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov.

(c) STEM-ulating Stories: YPLibrary’s “STEM-ulating Stories” program series starts on Wednesday, July 10th from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm at the Youngsville Library for kids ages 5 – 13. This program is geared for school-age kids. No registration necessary. Each week, a themed topic is paired with a corresponding book and hands-on STEM activity. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. There are four STEM programs being offered in July, at the end of each program free take-home snacks are distributed. You do not have to attend all four dates. “STEM-ulating Stories” will be held Wednesdays, July 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st from 1:00 – 2:00 pm each day.

(d) Warren County Fair Entry help: If you need help navigating the online Warren County Fair entry registration page (www.warrencountyfair.net), help is available at the Youngsville Library. Call 814-563-7670 during business hours to schedule one-on-one help. YPL also has extra hard copies of the “General Entry” Fair Form. Business hours: Mon & Wed 10 am – 6 pm, Tues 10 am – 3 pm, & Fri. 11 am – 4 pm. Non-animal entry deadline is July 30th.

BOROUGH NEWS

(a) YABA Days: Youngsville Boro YABA days will be Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th.

(b) Help needed: Youngsville Cemetery is looking for volunteers to help with general maintenance including weed-whacking, mowing, and other items. If you are able to volunteer a few hours per week, please contact Randy McKinney at 814-563-9904.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

(a) Job Fair @ YPL: Monday, July 15th from 10 am – 1:00 pm there will be a JOB FAIR located at the Youngsville Public Library. The Job Fair is being presented by Infinity Resources and PA Careerlink. There are multiple job openings with a diverse group of manufacturing facilities and institutional housekeeping. Temp-to-hire positions. Immediate openings. Infinity Resources also offers free transportation to some of the jobs being offered at this Job Fair. Training is available and there are immediate openings. PA Careerlink will also be there to assist with resume writing or other job-related needs. This is a great Job Fair for anyone who is new to the job-market or for those who wish to explore what training opportunities are available.

(b) Putt-Putt Fundraiser- The weekend of 12th -July 14th the “Warren County Fright Night” organization is having a “Christmas in July” Fundraising event at the North Warren Dairy Queen putt-putt course each day from open to close. Come and play putt-putt anytime July 12th-July 14th, the cost to play will benefit the Warren County Fright Night nonprofit and other charities that they work with too.

(c) YHS Alumni Luncheon: Tuesday, July 9th the YHS Alumni luncheon for those who graduated more than 50 years ago will be held from noon to 3:00 pm at the Youngsville VFD Hall. The luncheon is open to all YHS graduates and guest, with 50 or more graduated years. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Table service and beverage will be provided.

This year the honored guests are YHS class of 1973 and past YHS teachers. This year’s host is the YHS Class of 1972. For more information call Randy Peterson at 814-757-9480 or email: petersonra@atlanticbb.net.

(d) Two-day Shoot Event: The Upper Allegany Muzzleloader Club will be holding a two day shoot on Saturday, July 13th (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) and Sunday, July 14th (9:00 am – 2:00 pm), location will be the Brokenstraw Fish and Game Club (Mead Run Rd, Yngs). This event will mark the 50th Anniversary for the Club! The public is welcome and encouraged to stop by. Come out and see a shooting match “the old fashion way.” Questions call Les Davidson 814-563-7615.

(e) Chicken & Biscuit Fundraiser: Sunday, July 21st from 11:00 am – 2pm, there will be a Breast Cancer Fundraising Benefit event at the Youngsville Fire Department. There will be food (dine-in or take out), on-site raffle baskets, a separate Grand Prize Raffle, kids games, dunk tank, and basketball shoot contest. All proceeds go to support EMT Julie Beers during her cancer journey, to help cover her medical expenses, travel costs, and other expenses while she is recovering from surgery.

The Chicken & Biscuit Dinner (dine-in or take out) includes chicken gravy over a large biscuit, corn, applesauce, and cookie ($10 suggested donation). You do not need to be present to win for the various on-site raffle basket drawings, $10 for a sheet of 10 chances or $20 for a sheet of 25 chances. The Grand Prize Raffle tickets will be $5 each: 1st prize is a tundra yeti cooler ($400 value), 2nd prize is a Member’s Mark Pro Series Charcoal Grill ($300 value), 3rd prize is $150 in cash. Drawings will start at 1:30 pm. You also do not need to be present to win the 3 Grand Prize drawing items; Grand Prize Raffle tickets can be purchased ahead at the Youngsville Public Library ($5 per ticket) from Monday, July 8th – Friday, July 14th. YPL is open Mon & Wed 10 am – 6 pm, Tues 10 am – 3 pm, and Fri 11 am – 4 pm.

For the kids: Kids games will be available too. $5 a wristband, all they can play for prizes. A dunk tank is $5 for 3 balls and the “Basketball Shoot” is $5 a player: 1st Prize for Basketball Shoot is $20, 2nd place is $10, and 3rd place is $5, finals for Basketball Shoot at 1:30 pm. (f) BBQ Chicken Fundraiser: Saturday, July 13th there will be a BBQ Chicken Fundraiser and basket raffle at the Youngsville American Legion (10 North Main St. ) from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, chicken available until sold out. All proceeds will benefit “Wreaths Across America.” Chicken Dinner $12 and raffle tickets $1 each. There will be 40+ baskets for raffle. Raffle basket pictures will be available on Youngsville Wreaths Across America Facebook page in the days prior to July 13th. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 814-688-8514. Drawings will be held at 6:00 pm and winners will be notified.
