Gus, the Youngsville Elementary School therapy dog, definitely made a lot of FUR-ever friends during Youngsville Library’s “Barks & Books” (aka Read to a dog) Program. Gus is pictured with his handler, Kids had the opportunity to read to Gus, visit with Gus, and learn a little bit about his job as a therapy dog. Kids also left with free summer snacks and some dog-themed goodies too. Gus will be visiting YPlibrary again on Tuesday, July 30th from 10:00 am – 10:30 am. No registration necessary, program geared to kids ages 3-12+. Special thank you to Gus’ handler and WCSD counselor Laura Bierbower.
LIBRARY NEWS
(a) Fiction & Fitness: Themed stories, activities, take-and-make craft, and a free snack are all part of Youngsville Library & Yng YMCA’s “Fiction & Fitness” program. Location – behind the Yngs YMCA building, at Island Park rain or shine, No registration necessary target ages 4-12 yrs. Next Fiction & Fitness is Wednesday, July 31st from 10 am -11 am. Those that attend will receive one free day-pass to the Yngs YMCA.
(b)YPLibrary needs LEGOS: Please consider donating any “gently-used” Legos you have to the Youngsville Public Library to help us start a new monthly “Lego Club” program. All Legos received will be staying onsite at the library. The goal is to provide kids that opportunity to add to or reconstruct a themed Lego build each month and to display those builds in our locked, glass case inside the library’s lobby. We will also accept Legos found at garage/rummage sales, partial/incomplete Lego kits, and any Lego build booklets you might have. Thank you for your consideration.
BOROUGH NEWS
(a) Open Boro Council Seat: Youngsville Borough Council is accepting letters of interest for an open Borough Council Member seat. Submission deadline for letter of interest is Monday, August 5th, appointment will take place August 12, 2024. Applicant must: (a) be a registered voter of the Borough, (b) attend Borough Council meeting (second Monday of the month at 4:30 pm), (c) attend occasional work sessions (budget session, etc.) and review bill and special documents. The appointment term is August 2024 – December 2025. The appointed person would have to run for re-election in November 2025 if they wish to remain on Borough Council. Letter of interest should be sent to: Wendy Wilcox, Borough Manager… wwilcox@youngsvilleboro.org or can be mailed or dropped off to the Borough Building (40 Railroad Street, Youngsville, PA 16371).

(b) BVSP Event: Upcoming August events at the Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool: Saturday, August 3rd “Summer Celebration” from 6:30 pm- 8:30 pm. Wednesday, August 14th “Doggie Dip” from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. For more details visit BVSP’s Facebook page.
MISCELLANEOUS NEWS
(a) Irvine-Newbold Estate Tour: The Wilder Museum of Warren County History presents Irvine-Newbold Estate Tour with U.S. Forest Service Archaeologist Zaakiyah Cua on Wednesday, July 31 at 6 pm. Tour the ground of this once-lavish estate. Meet at the Wilder Museum (51 Erie Ave, Irvine). Proper footwear is a must. For more information call 814-723-1795.
(b) Neighbor Day: Save the Date- Saturday, August 17th from 11:30 am – 6:00 pm will be a “Neighbor Day” event sponsored by Pittsfield Otterbein GMC, located at the Church parking lot at 258 Dalrymple Street, Pittsfield. This will be a fun, free, family friendly event that will include: music, children’s games, picnic food, giveaways, and more. Bring your family and bring your neighbors and be ready to have some fun.
(c) Garland VFD: The Garland Volunteer Fire Department will be selling pop, ice tea, Gatorade, and water during the Warren County Fair. Please swing by and support Garland VFD at their booth. They will also have raffle tickets & instant pull tab tickets; all proceeds will benefit Garland VFD.
(d) Thursday Bingo: Weekly “Bar-Bingo” night is each Thursday at the Youngsville American Legion (10 N. Main St). Bingo starts at 6 pm, Kitchen now opens at 4:30 pm on Thursdays. No smoking allowed at Youngsville American Legion from 5 pm – 9 pm on these weekly Bar-Bingo nights. Bar-bingo is a formal term for this weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit near or at the Legion bar area.
