Candidate Information Night set for Thursday

Aspiring public officials and interested community members are invited to the upcoming Candidate Information Night, which will be Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Jackson Courtroom.

Hosted by the Director of Elections Margia Hansen this event will provide crucial details for individuals considering a run for elected office in the 2025 election cycle. Those planning to attend should reserve their seat by calling (814) 728-3406.

Several key positions will be up for election, offering opportunities for individuals to serve their communities in various capacities. The offices include Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, as Judge Skerda is not seeking retention, Prothonotary & Clerk of Courts of the Court of Common Pleas, District Attorney, and Coroner.

School board positions are also open, with two seats available in Region I, one seat each in Regions II and III, four seats in the Corry Area School District, and four seats in the Titusville School District.

Additionally, the positions of city mayor and three city council seats will be contested. Various township and borough positions, including all tax collectors and election officials such as judges and election inspectors, are also up for election.

Potential candidates should take note of the following important dates. The first day to circulate and file petitions to collect signatures is Feb. 18. The last day to file petitions is March 11 and all submissions must be received by 4:30 p.m., as postmarks will not be accepted. The casting of the lots for ballot positions will take place on March 21 at 10 a.m. Applicable candidates will be notified and should attend in person or send a proxy.

The event will also cover completing and submitting nomination petitions, including required dates and deadlines, proper completion procedures, signature requirements, and the submission of a statement of financial interest.

Candidates must also know the filing fees associated with their nomination petitions and the financial regulations governing their campaigns. Campaign finance requirements will be discussed, particularly the rules for candidates who raise or spend more than $250.
