Warren County SADD to host spaghetti dinner fundraiser

Warren County SADD is inviting the community to support its mission by attending a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Warren Moose Lodge on Sunday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from SADD members or at the door. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, dessert, and one non-alcoholic beverage. In addition, a basket raffle featuring six to eight themed baskets will be held. Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the annual Warren County SADD conference and the mock accident simulations held at local high schools. These programs aim to educate students about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

“It’s to ultimately fund the conference we hold every year, and it’s usually in April or May,” said Levi Stanko, Warren County SADD coordinator. “They also help fund the mock crashes, and typically at those, we make donations or buy the firefighters pizza or other food because they donate their time.”

SADD’s annual conference typically draws 100-110 students, but this year’s attendance is projected to reach 130-140 students. The event features engaging preventative activities, including Think Fast Interactive, a game show-style presentation that educates students in a fun and interactive way.

“It’s kind of cool. Actually, it looks like something on TV,” Stanko said.

In addition to the conference, Warren County SADD plays a major role in organizing the mock accident simulation held at various schools. These events, set up by local first responders, depict realistic crash scenes to demonstrate the consequences of impaired and reckless driving.

“Luckily, we have awesome first responders around here,” Stanko said. “But it is SADD’s responsibility to come up with the scenario. They choose the kids that are going to be in the accident. And they help with makeup.”

Students interested in joining SADD can speak with their school’s SADD advisor to get involved.

Starting at $2.99/week.
