Cornish Hill Road bridge work begins Monday

Work will begin soon to replace portions of the bridge that carries Cornish Hill Road (Route 4004) over Pine Valley Brook in Columbus Township.

Work on the bridge, which is located between the intersection with Humphrey’s Corners Road and the intersection with Pine Valley Road (Route 4007) just outside of Bear Lake, is expected to start Monday, weather permitting.

The project includes the replacement of the upper portion of the bridge, also known as the superstructure, including the deck and beams. Work will also include minor paving work near the bridge, and updates to the drainage and roadway shoulders.

A detour will be required during construction and is expected to be in place for three months. It will be posted using Humphreys Corners Road and Pine Valley Road.

Drivers should also be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions.

The new bridge is expected to be opened by July 7, 2025.

The existing concrete bridge was built in 1987. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 200 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The contractor is Horizon Construction of Seneca, Pa. The contract cost is $1,555,000, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.

Starting at $2.99/week.
