ANF continues to reopen
Additional recreations sites on the Allegheny National Forest are reopening.
Public Affairs Officer Christopher Warner told the Times Observer that several sites will open Friday, May 22, including Dewdrop, Kiasutha, Hearts Content campground, the Tidioute overlook and the lower loop at Loleta.
Four sites, he said, “will remain closed for the time being.”
Those include the upper loop and day use area at Loleta, the ATV trails, Kelly Pines and restrooms that are serviced by the Forest Service.
The last round of opening just over a week ago focused on campgrounds throughout the ANF.
That round of openings included Kinzua Wolf Run Marina, Handsome Lake Boat Access Campground, Hooks Brook Boat Access Campground, Hopewell Boat Access Campground, Pine Grove Boat Access Campground, Morrison Boat Access Campground, Minister Creek Campground, Tracy Ridge Campground and the Twin Lakes Campground
That’s in addition to several locations that opened on May 8, including Willow Bay Campground, Buckaloons Campground, Red Bridge Campground, Willow Bay Campground, Kiasutha Day Use Boat Launch, Webbs Ferry Boat Launch, Roper Hollow Boat Launch and the Elijah Boat Launch.
“All Allegheny National Forest All-Terrain and Off-Highway Vehicle trails will remain closed until early June,” according to the ANF. “Forest Service staff are continuing to properly prepare the ATV/OHV trails to ensure they are safe and maintained before opening.”
