After a COVID-19 outbreak that saw nearly 60 percent of inmates test positive, the Warren County Jail is set to return to normal operations next week.
Warren Jon Collins said there have been no new cases among inmates or staff.
By the middle of October, nearly 60 percent of inmates at the Warren County Jail had tested positive for the virus. Visitation was stopped and court appearances went back to being conducted by video.
Over a dozen staff members also contracted the virus, about half of the jail’s staff.
Visitation was virtual through the holiday season and Collins explained that the inmates have had the ability to have visits virtually.
“Face-to-face visitation will resume on Jan. 3, 2022,” Collins said. “Masks must be worn by the public during visitation and no more than one visitor at a time.”
“The staff have gone above and beyond in their efforts to not only reduce but (eliminate) all cases of covid in the facility,” Jonie Smitley, the county’s infectious disease nurse, previously told the Times Observer. “They have shown great strength and perseverance, working hard and pulling together.”
